ENTRY DESCRIPTION
In many walks of life Artists, including Ballet dancers, have typically made many sacrifices and a huge commitment to becoming professional - they are "Captive” to their Artistry. This ballerina was selected for the Moscow Bolshoi Ballet but made the decision not to accept because of the demands required of her from a very young age. She did, however, pursue a dance career which was appropriate for her talent but which allowed her to follow other interests as well.

Artist’s Statement:
I have always been interested in people, and originally started to photograph in situations which represented different aspects or conditions of life common to us all, irrespective of gender, culture or ethnicity. This focus has gradually changed so that many of my images now portray mood and/or emotion.
Through my photography I have been inspired by the fact that ideas, moods and concepts, usually found in the imagination, can be transformed into an image in such a surprising and even challenging ways! It is this opportunity to show a unique personal vision which makes photography so exciting and rewarding.
