Fashion / Beauty: Honorable Mention 2018 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This portrait is part of a series highlighting the intricate artistry of humanity, in both the physical form and inner workings. This is shown through a lens of early to mid 20th century fashion and portrait sensibilities, utilising stark contrast and gentle tonality. Together with Lorelei, I worked to display a wordless story through light, shadow, and fabric on the human form.
AUTHOR
I am a 21-year-old design student at Ideaschool, Eastern Institute of Technology in Napier, New Zealand. My main focus is portrait and fashion photography, as well as graphic design. I’ve had an interest in photography since I was a child, but I have only considered it as my intended career path for about a year. My modern, minimal visual language is supported by ongoing research into early to mid 20th century aesthetics, particularly fashion, photography, and film. I prefer to shoot in the controlled environment of a studio with carefully curated styling, and loose composition and lighting concepts. However, my practice is ultimately organic and experimental in nature, allowing the model to be the major variable. Together with each subject, I work to display a wordless story through light, shadow, and fabric on the human form.
