ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Walking around my neighborhood in Astoria Queens, New York on a windy grey day, I spotted this tall sunflower waving in the wind. Diffused light through the clouds brought out the details of the petals and the head and I knew those same details would pop if shot in black and White.

The photographer Cate Franklyn’s photographic story began when she moved back to her old neighborhood of Astoria Queens, New York. With camera in hand she continues to rediscover the beauty of the urban landscape of her youth and newly discovering its dynamic redevelopment. She captures images of the ordinary and makes them extraordinary as seen through her urban eyes.
