AUTHOR
Samantha Nieman grew up in London, England where she studied photography at Hampstead College of Fine Arts. She completed a degree in International Development at the University of Sussex and for four years lived and worked in Bangkok, Thailand. As a consular official at the British Embassy she met and assisted hundreds of British nationals who were having difficulties in Thailand.
Samantha loves taking pictures of people and places and has travelled and photographed extensively in Southeast Asia. She began taking photographs at a young age and learned from her father, the photographer, Julian Nieman. She also did master classes with photojournalist, Jonathan Taylor in Bangkok. Several of Samantha’s photos have been shortlisted to the finals for the Young International Wildlife Photographer of the year competition. She volunteered as a photographer for Village Focus International, a non-government organisation in Laos. Her photographs can be found on their website.
In 2015, Samantha was awarded the Nicola Anderson bursary for a photography based research project that she designed and later implemented. The project was based on survivors of human trafficking in Laos and Thailand and formed the basis for her dissertation on human rights.
