Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2018 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
These sea stacks are located on Reynisfjara beach on Iceland's eastern peninsula. According to local Icelandic folklore, these large basalt columns were once trolls trying to pull ships from the ocean to shore. However, these trolls were dim and went out too late in the night; dawn broke on the horizon, turning the trolls into solid stone.
I have tried to capture the dramatic and foreboding character of the rocks using black and white as my image format and created using both Photoshop CC and Silver Effex Pro 2. They were captured on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III and I used both neutral density and graduated filter systems from Cokin to balance the tonality in camera.
AUTHOR
I fell in love with photography at the age of 13. It has been a lifelong passion ever since and is the channel for my creative output. I look to create strong emotional images that tell a story. The advent of digital has been a revelation for me. It enables creativity and has elevated photography in my view to a more dynamic and innovative art form.
Most recently, I have been returning to Iceland to cover the many aspects of the unique landscapes there, in particular, its waterfalls and bleak volcanic landscapes.
