Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2018 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I captured this image on a run in the adobe hills northeast of Montrose, CO. The long sweeping line of the prominent hill frames the geographic feature known as Flat Top, another adobe hill with its namesake top in the background. In the distant south, the San Juan Mountains compose the horizon. This composition allows for the strong contrasts up front, which allows for discovery as your gaze wanders back into the photo.
AUTHOR
I remember being captivated by National Geographic as a kid, immersed in strange new cultures and environments. All those years studying incredible photography rubbed off on me. Countless rolls of film were burned through trying to recreate the lines and compositions. When I was introduced to the work of Ansel Adams, the strength of the subject was magnified by the contrast of dark and light. I consider Adams to be a great inspiration in seeing the picture in the photograph.
