Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2018 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Traversing Babusar Pass at approx. 4500 metres towards Islamabad/ Pakistan, you not only pass Provincial borders, but also witness a successive change of landscape. From the mostly dry, rugged and rocky terrain of Gilgit-Baltistan, the Kahgan Valley displays an intriguing beauty of tender green spots between rocks and brown soil, which gives way to an Alpine scenery with forests the further you go downwards. The Babusar Top is by far neither the highest nor the most spectacular pass in Pakistan, but to me it is the most beautiful, as towards the North your eye loses orientation in the seemingly endless, towering mountain ranges of the Karakoram and the Himalayas up to the horizon, whereas towards the South you look into the promising and gently rolling Kaghan Valley, as if inviting you to march towards Paradise.
