Nature: Honorable Mention 2018 (amateur)
The Claw of Great Mell Fell by Matthew Turner (United Kingdom)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Whilst out exploring some particularly claustrophobic and decaying woodland on the slopes of Great Mell Fell (Lake District, UK) I suddenly stumbled across this striking and sinister tree stump. It instantly grabbed my attention, standing out from the cluttered surroundings and debris of broken branches. It's decomposing state had carved it into a most sinister appearance, reminding me of a claw reaching out from the crowded graveyard of fallen trees. The misty conditions matched the stark setting creating a suitably dark and dingy atmosphere.
