ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I took this photo of one of my closest friends when she was struggling with eating issues. At the time she was eating under 600 calories each day and was rapidly losing weight. This image was originally meant to be used as part of a series of images studying the female body. However I ended up not including this image as part of the series as I thought it didn't quite fit in with the other pieces. I was trying to show powerful, strong female bodies. Whereas in my opinion the female in the photo looks fragile, vulnerable and closed off. The right side of her body begins to blend into the black background as if she is fading away, slowly deteriorating. She is curled up in a foetal position making her seem younger than she is. Shortly after this image was taken she was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, an eating disorder that affected the way she saw food, causing her to starve herself. Nearly year on from this photo and she is now back to a healthy weight but still has a difficult relationship with food. She often looks back at this image to remind herself what under eating can do and how unhealthy it can be.
