Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2018 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
High in the Himalaya, just above Annapurna Base Camp, I visited this shrine and viewed its long early morning shadow draped across the terrain. Knowing the sun's backlight would give a stunning photo, I quickly setup; and then, someone stepped up to make an offering, humanizing this moment in time. Tributes in memory of others are part of Nepalese culture...plaques bolted to nearby rocks named fallen climbers.
22,943-ft Machhapuchhre summit stands in the upper right, a sacred mountain that climbers are forbidden to climb.
