ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This shot was captured during the devasting Port Hills Wildfires in Christchurch, New Zealand of a firefighting helicopter flying straight into a enormous amount of smoke, complete with monsoon bucket, equipped to tackle the blaze.
The 2017 Port Hills fires were wildfires in the Port Hills of Christchurch, New Zealand. Two separate fires, several kilometres apart, started on Monday afternoon on 13 February 2017. By Wednesday night, the fires had combined to one large area and damaged over 20.75 km², tragically killing a NZ War Hero, helicopter pilot and family man, Steve Askin.
