ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that affects the cells of the hair follicle causing hair loss.
When extending to the whole body is called alopecia universalis. The skin is completely hairless.
From a social point of view, there is a strong psychological handicap.
Few people know the pathology and almost all associate it with baldness due to cancer.
Many people with alopecia suffer from depression and in many parts of the world they risk social exclusion.
The disease begins suddenly: from one day to the next the hair falls completely. Looking in the mirror and not recognizing his own face is traumatic: the skeletal profile of my face reflected in the mirror also appeared to me in my sleep. Until you fall into depression ... or you get up and make this point of weakness your main strength.
So, this is my story. I am a doctor by profession, photographer by passion and sometimes even a patient. In these self-portrait shot I enclosed my path after the diagnosis of alopecia: I try to express the emotional and psychic involvement, and the processing work that every patient affected by alopecia is called to develop.
An introspective journey that crosses the conscious and the subconscious, the aesthetic and the soul.
With these self-shot of my human body I would like to let people know this rare pathology and all that follows.
