ENTRY DESCRIPTION
On the street in Riga, Latvia in 1974.
Edwin first started making photographs in 1965 in Canada. Early on he was drawn to black and white street photography using his camera to document what he saw. In addition to being a photographer, over the years he worked directing theatre productions for the stage and later produced documentary films. Even though he has shied away from showing much of his work previously, Edwin continues to travel widely documenting street life with his camera.
AUTHOR
Edwin's first love of photography took place in his early teens when he discovered the magic of watching images appear in a darkroom from a previously blank piece of paper. His passion to take photographs took hold soon after. Along the way he earned a degree in Photo Arts from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. Some of his greatest teachers over the years have been the black and white photographs seen in galleries and books made by the great photographers working in the middle of the 20th century. Edwin shied away from showing his work for many years and went on to work directing theatre productions for the stage, followed by producing documentary films. During that time his heart remained deeply drawn to capturing street life as it unfolds on his regular travels.
