The Big Friendly Giant. by James Lewin (Kenya)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I have been trying to get a shot like this for a very long time and have tried time and time again. To succeed with a big tusker has made me extremely happy and proud when you think that there are fewer than 30 left in the whole of Africa.
Twenty minutes before I got this shot I had my head in my hands because I had placed my camera on a game path as HA1 was coming to drink and he gently strolled right past my camera brushing it with his left tusk. Meanwhile I was about 50 metres away clicking like crazy. When I retrieved my camera, I was only to find out that no pictures had been taken at all. I thought I would never get that opportunity again but after this magnificent elephant had finished drinking it followed the same path away and this is what I managed to get.
I will never forget the hours I spent with this remarkable and friendly bull, I hope we meet again.
