ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Toto is the captive orangutan at Chapultepec Zoo in Mexico City. When he was born, Toto and his brother Jambi were hand raised and then tossed into a concrete enclosure at the zoo cut off from the outside world. Jambi past away 3 years ago because of an infection caused by the zoo's terrible hygiene protocol. Toto is now completely alone. The Great Ape Project Mexico is fighting to get him to a sanctuary where he would have a better life, even the UN has supported this campaign but the zoo refuses to let him go and Toto remains alone and in danger of suffering his brother's fate.

About Me
I am a Mexican wildlife photographer, conservationist, and animal rights’ activist. I studied at the Escuela Activa de Fotografía and have been published on several occasions. On 2016, I was ranked among the 111 best photographs at the URBAN Photo Awards. I was a speaker at TEDxPolanco 2017 in Mexico City where I shared my vision about the importance of nature photography for conservation and sustainable ecotourism. I am also certified for handling wildlife by the International Wildlife Handlers organization and I have extensive experience in raptor rehabilitation and handling and care. Right now, I am working with FotoExplora, a joint project that seeks to raise awareness about wildlife and nature conservation through photo safaris in Mexico, talks and other activities related to photography and conservation, and with The Great Ape Project Mexico seeking the transformation of Mexican and worldwide zoos to truly benefit animals and nature conservation and environmental education. My ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and saving nature and wildlife from disappearing from this world and to inspire people, from all backgrounds, to join the fight.
