Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2018 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image is part of a continuing series that I started in November of 2017. It combines sculpture and photography. This is a single piece of palm bark formed with water, pressure and time. Being organic matter, there are only easy curves and the absence of any hard, straight lines makes them feel like pen and ink drawings. More to come!
AUTHOR
I’m always inspired by nature and natural forms. In this series i use found organic objects to make photographs. Sometimes as found and sometimes after “reform school” (water, steam, fire, pressure and time to reshape them), think slow cooking. Then it’s all about light and texture to evoke a feeling and find the personality of each form.
I love to shoot portraits and combine that skill with my experience shooting still life work. It makes this as much about the process as the end result.
I was born in Hartford (1967), raised in central Massachusetts and schooled in RI.
Currently I split time between Miami, Massachusetts and New York. This series was started in November of 2017.
