Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2018 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
"What if I fell off this cliff?" I can't help the thought from entering my mind every time I venture out on a ledge or crag. Early one morning at Glacier Peak in Yosemite National Park, I saw someone put that question to the test. The sun had yet to rise and me and a few friends were preparing to shoot the dramatic landscapes of Yosemite Valley drenched in the morning sun.
I rounded a corner and saw two people sitting and talking. They had helmets on. “What are you guys doing?” I asked. “Just going on a hike” he replied. Strange, but I didn’t pay much attention. After scouting some more, I returned to find the “hikers” zipping up their wing-suits, preparing for a BASE jump. I asked if I could photograph them and where they would be jumping from. I scrambled to the ledge and framed my shot just in time for the perfect moment.
The controversial BASE jumping that occurs sparsely through Yosemite Valley is a testament to America and it's relentless pursuit of crazy ideas and pushing limits. I doubt I will get an opportunity to photograph these guys again, so this photo has a special place in my heart.
