Portrait: Honorable Mention 2018 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Somewhere I read that a difference
between a painted and a photographed portrait is time.
While a photographed portrait is created
in an instant, the click of the camera,
a painted portrait takes a lot longer.
If the model poses for the portrait, his or hers
expression changes slightly during the creative
process thus influencing the final result.
This portrait is in the middle of the two:
It is a photograph but taken
with a specially constructed camera that takes 56 pictures of the model. Each picture is part
of the models face.
It's like a panorama photo of someone's face.
The complete process takes about 5 minutes to complete,
and requires the model to sit still during
that time. As this is not completely possible,
during the process, facial expression may change a
little, just like in a painting ...
AUTHOR
I have always been fascinated by photography. After finishing high school,
my plan was to study photography at the Dutch “Fotovakschool”. Instead, I studied
electronics and worked as a software engineer for many years. But photography
always played a role in the background. In 2008, I decided to live this dream and
started the study at the Fotovakschool in Amsterdam. I finished this study in July
2012.
I specialize in Landscape, Architecture and fine art Photography.
A high level of detail and well-balanced composition distinguishes my photography.
Sources of inspiration are Edward Burtynsky, Andreas Gursky, Gregory Crewdson, Mitch Epstein, Hans Aarsman and the New Topographics Movement.
