Architecture: Honorable Mention 2019 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
In the suburbs of Tbilisi is an iconic building. Iconic because of its rounded balconies and the perilous metal walkway that connects a complex of tower blocks. To even get into the building you must first pay a small fee of 10 Tetri ($0.04) to operate the elevator. It takes you up to the 14th floor where the battered metal walkway is. The elevator is guarded by a matronly woman who is thought to have been a sniper in Abkhazia during the war. If you don't pay the fee, it's her wrath you face. In one of the crevices of the building is a staircase where you have a breathtaking view of the city. It was in the staircase that I took this photo, with the scene of Tbilisi tower blocks nestled neatly within the frame of the balcony.
