Architecture: Honorable Mention 2019 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The decaying structure of the old powerhouse literally drips with tones, textures and patina. Having access to it was a unique opportunity to shoot some of the incredible features and scenes of a once lively and important industrial power plant.
AUTHOR
I love when textures jump up at me in a way that makes you want to reach out and feel their qualities, from sharp edges to subtle grains. Black and White images capture these textures with gradations of shadows and light in a way that colour cannot match. The contrast that develops between darkness and light can add drama or nuance to an image inviting me to catch it in that slice of time. The stripped down clarity of the photograph lets me tell its story in a clear and crisp way that I find captivating and inspiring. I wanted to submit some of my monochrome images because I feel they convey strong narratives that don’t get as many opportunities to be in the limelight.
