Architecture: Honorable Mention 2019 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The curved lines designed by Oscar Niemeyer of the Pampulha Church (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) seduced artists and architects since its construction in 1943, but at first they scandalised the ecclesiastical authorities which didn't allow for 15 years to consecrate the chapel due to its unusual shape and a dog painting on the mural both on the inside and outside of the chapel. The church was considered unfit for religious purposes until 1959.
For this reason, I decided to provide a silhouette of the building and I focused my image on the beautiful curves of the structure, "censoring" the mural painting on the exterior of the chapel.
AUTHOR
Antonio Salaverry is a Brazilian photographer born in Rio de Janeiro, 1986. He used to work as an engineer for one of the largest companies in Brazil but decided to dedicate full time to photography. His Portfolio has a wide range of different styles and genres, from urban and nature scenes to street and event photography, portraits, abstract or wide angle architecture and also digitally enhanced images.
Awarded nationally and internationally in major competitions, he likes to think that this is only the start. To him, photographing in the field is just the beginning of an artistic process which takes its final form after digitally editing and processing the image and aims to transport the observer into a universe different from the usual one.
