The Tower Sees You - Though You Think You Fly Free by Bernard Fournier (Canada)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Though it has played the role of a notorious prison, a scandalous asylum, and even an archvillain’s lair in many movies and television shows this remarkable example of architecture in the art deco style is in reality a key component of the City of Toronto’s municipal water supply system. The R.C. Harris Waterworks facility.
Perched on land rising out of Lake Ontario, this south view highlights the “big sky” over the water on a day that included bright sunshine and wispy cloud cover. The chance inclusion of the two birds-in-flight and the ominous presence of the architecture, inspired the work’s title.
