Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2019 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
A two hour hike up a mountain in Norway leads you to a seemingly dead end. However, upon further inspection, there is a small cave opening. After walking through the pitch black cave, you come across the most beautiful waterfall. It is almost impossible to capture this magnificent waterfall in an image.
AUTHOR
My name is KC Sandidge, and I am a photographer based in Colorado Springs, Colorado who specializes in macro photography. Though I have no formal education in the fine arts or photography, I have always had a camera in my hand. I was introduced to the “black room” when I was in high school and fell in love with it. I spent countless hours working on my craft: creating, developing, and experimenting with 35mm film. After graduating high school, I transitioned into the digital world and bought my first DSLR: a canon T2i. I began shooting anything and everything: my friends, snowboarding, insects on flowers, etc. I would show off my work to family and friends who would ask me for prints to display in their houses. They provided me with great feedback and expressed that I should pursue photography as more than just a hobby. Though I did listen, I never took their advice seriously until I started shooting my “The Drops of Simplicity” collection after stumbling across a unique way to capture water drops. The results were mesmerizing, and I ran with it. I began to experiment with different types of media, backgrounds, and other additives to create original pieces of photography. Though photography is not my full-time job, I spend most of my free time perfecting my style. I am always pushing the boundaries to try to create new and exciting pieces of work, specifically revolving around bright and vibrant colors and high contrast black and white photos.
