ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The Kambala, is a little-known event that takes place annually in small hamlets across southern India's coastal belt. It is a ritual steeped in history and has enthralled people of this region for over 1000 years. It involves racing a pair of buffaloes down a muddy paddy field at full speed, the tournament is fiercely contested by teams from across villages of the region and racers are egged on by their vociferous supporters. Not only is it a breath-taking visual spectacle and a photographer’s dream, but if offers a rare glimpse into raw rural India and its people.
