Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2019 (amateur)
A Saturday morning around the Arc de Triomphe by Sebastian Schich (France)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
A Saturday morning during winter 2018 around the Arc de Triomphe. Police men and tear gas frame the monument, thus creating new perspectives regarding this so often photographed Parisian monument. One exploited in this series focuses on the interaction between the structured lines created by police men, the diffusion of the background created by tear gas clouds, and the somewhat random appearance of some individuals. The character is voluntarily static, not suggesting imminence of any violent conflicts. The photos are converted from color into B&W to underline the intertemporal aspect of the situation.
AUTHOR
I am living and working in Paris, having discovered analogue photography in Berlin in the late 1980s. I typically use very limited post-processing in my (mostly) street photography but am also experimenting with transpositions of digital photos to highlight their abstract and timeless quality.
