Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2019 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
In Iceland we have a national holiday called Verslunarmannahelgi which consists of multiple event's big and small all around the island. When the inhabitants of Flateyri, a small village in north-western Iceland, woke up after a night of festivities it became apparent that one of their boats, Markús IS 777, had sank in the harbour during the night and only its dock lines prevented it from plunging down. It's still unclear how this happened, but foul play was suspected because a crucial water pump had gone missing from the hold. It was salvaged and towed to a nearby town, but it never made the voyage as the towing rope snapped and, once again, the boat sank and this time it vanished into the dark where it remains today.
AUTHOR
Born and raised in Iceland I've been surrounded by natural wonders my entire life. It was only a matter of time before I picked up a camera. I took a few courses in film photography in my early 20's but lost access to the darkroom when I graduated and migrated into the digital world. Nowadays I make a living servicing medical imaging equipment, but the camera is never far away. I do a lot of work in colour, but being colourblind, I feel more at home in the world of monochrome.
