ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This film image was taken in Udaipur, India on Ilford HP5 and developed and scanned by me.
I was with my local guide, he was telling me about the city and its culture, when I saw this young girl staring at me like she's never seen a foreigner before. As we walked by, I said hello. She flashed a huge smile and said hello back. We slowed down to talk with her, my guide did some translating and explained to me that her and her family are part of subculture called Gypsies. He told me Gypsies originated in India and have made their way around the entire world. I noticed right away that she has the most beautiful light brown eyes; he told me that it's very common and known that Gypsies in India have light brown or green eyes. After talking back and forth for a little while, I asked if I could take her picture. She looked over at her mom, who nodded in agreement. The young girl looked at me with a shy smile and waited for me to take her picture.
AUTHOR
I am a film photographer based in the Washington DC area. I've been photographing for the majority of my life. My passion for photography started in 1995 when I was very young, the tender age of 14. I got a hold of my father's 35mm Pentax K1000 and starting taking pictures of anything and everything. After an extended hiatus, I picked up where I left off in 2012. It came back to me, easily, and a few years later I transitioned from digital photography to film, my first true love. Now I spend my time traveling and capturing life, on film, one photograph at a time and couldn't be happier.
