Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2019 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Hermits Rest is the furthermost viewing area along the Grand Canyon South Rim, its also the last stop before returning back to the village. Having arrived here I decided to take a walk along the hiking trail and wasn't too long before I noticed this sweeping tree a little down below. Leaving the trail I made my way down over the loose stones I approached this tree which had caught my attention from up above. I remember it being a very still day with a slight hint of possible rain, this only added to the mood which was in front of me. With a wide angle lens I set up the tripod very low to the ground wanting to capture the curves of this majestic looking tree. It was also just after midday and this was the perfect setting for a black and white photograph.
AUTHOR
With over 30 years of photography under his belt Nick Psomiadis is a seasoned professional artist. In 2010 he focused his attention on the fine art practice of giclee printing using professional pigment ink printers used by art galleries around the world, and then also framing his own works which are now on permanent display at the Steven Print Gallery located in Richmond and the Print Décor Gallery located in Malvern. In November 2017 Nick showcased his finest works in a solo exhibition at the Steps Gallery in Carlton titled “Oceanic Dreams”. The display consisted of 12 large format oceanic themed and exquisitely framed prints measuring up to 1.7 meters in length making this his most prestigious exhibition to date.
Each print is numbered and signed and accompanied with a certificate by the artist. Sometime soon in 2018 Nick hopes to celebrate a milestone achievement of having sold a total of one thousand limited edition fine art prints to those who collect and admire his work.
