Nature: Honorable Mention 2019 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I was visiting the lighthouse of Chassiron on the Island of Oléron (France) when I came across this image. Located at the northern tip of the island, where locals called it ‘’The End of the world’’, the lighthouse was erected in 1685 following the numerous shipwrecks caused of the reefs. Today, these reefs are very coveted by surfers but they must be experienced because of the strength of the waves and the uncertain currents. It’s only possible to surf during low tide and to access the reefs, surfers need to go down the cliff and walk 500m before reaching the water.
Little groups of surfers were surfing together, but I saw this women and I was thinking it’s so great that she’s experienced enough to just go by herself and faced the waves. It was really windy that day. I like to capture female role model for my 2 years old girl, to show her that she can do the same as the boys.
AUTHOR
I’ve been photographing my environment since I was 9 years old, but 4 years ago I switch career to dedicated my time to photography. After leaving the documentary field I went back to photography school and then started my business as a freelance photographer. I mainly work as an architecture and event photographer but I almost never leave the house without a camera. Even though I left documentaries, my approach to photography is the same; I listen, look, and wait to seize the right moment.
