Nature: Honorable Mention 2019 (professional)
Phacellophora camtschatica - Fried Egg Jellyfish by David Williams (Japan)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Jellyfish fascinate me. They have no brain, heart, bones or eyes yet they are older than dinosaurs and can live forever. In fact, they are the only immortal animal!. This photo is of a fried egg jellyfish. They get their name because of their amazing tentacle length which can reach up to 20 feet long and their bell that protrudes like an egg which can be up to 2ft wide.
They bang into each other and their tentacles get all wrapped up and become a beautiful mess. I wanted to show this wonderful species in B&W as I feel it is very unusual and striking. This shot was taken at an aquarium. Like my zoo photography, I want to show people that you can take stunning shots without having to go abroad, learn to scuba dive or spend thousands of pounds on equipment. Photography is for everyone and there should be no barriers to demonstrate your creativity.
