Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2019 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world...would do this, it would change the earth.” ― William Faulkner.
Standing up for what you believe has been a key to changing the world as we know it today. I’m a strong believer in that our voices have power and that we must stand against injustice.
Photographing protests is one of my favorite forms of photography because you can capture so much passion and emotion in a picture. I found out that President Trump and Vice President Pence were coming to Atlanta, Georgia and that there was going to be a protest. I knew I found my passion piece. I went to the protest and began shooting from all angles and sides to capture the passion, anger, and emotion there.
I’m choosing to do black and white photos instead of color because its more compelling and the color in a photo serves only as a distraction. The black and white photos bring a strong emotional tie and emulate those from the civil rights movement.
