Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2019 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The streets of London are home to hundreds of homeless people who are looking to survive the cold and the raid. There are a number of charities that support the homeless. I followed Haircuts4Homeless one morning as they worked tirelessly to transform their clients in an East London shelter. The difference was wonderful and such a great team of volunteer hairdressers.
AUTHOR
I have worked as a photographer for 3 years, although I retrained as a lawyer in the middle after a bike accident left me unable to walk for 8 years. In 2018, I returned to photography. I moved to Mexico and wrote to photographers at National Geographic, Reuters and Associated Press to ask them for advice and to NGOs to ask them for voluntary experience. With support from the photographers in Mexico, I have covered news events and documentary photography in Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico. In late 2018, I joined the caravan of migrants making their way through Central America to the US. I am now working on a project to show migrant life in Greece.
