Photomanipulation: Honorable Mention 2019 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
In the digital age an analogue photomanipulation...
Ulrich Plenzdorf's 'Die neuen Leiden des jungen W." (The New Sorrows of Young W.) tells the story of a young man (Edgar), who wants to escape from his small middle class environment. Reading a book, which he found and doesn't know its name, he discovers similarities between him and the book's protagonist.
It is Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's 'Die Leiden des jungen Werthers' (The Sorrows of Young Werther), which tells the story of Werther, who falls in love with a beautiful young girl named Charlotte despite knowing beforehand that she is engaged to a man named Albert.
The tragic end in both novels is unavoidable.
Werther = Edgar
Charlotte = Charlie
Albert = Dieter
As Ulrich Plenzdorf's novel refers to Goethe, this image refers direct to Plenzdorf's work.
