Wildlife: Honorable Mention 2019 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The Oryx is definitely my favourite antelope (besides the Kudu), stronger than a horse and dangerous with it´s tremendous horns even for predators. I´m always keen to take some Gemsbock (how they are called in South Africa) photograph`s and this is easier said then done as Oryx mostly look stupid on photographs, you only see the back or the horn are cut off the picture. Yes an Oryx photograph is much more of a challenge than a good picture of a lion (sorry but that is the case). Besides that their eyes are mostly closed, the ears are sticking into different directions and so on and so on. I almost gave up on my last trips only distant shots were O.K.. But still I was dreaming of Oryx shots in the Kalahari Desert – yes kind of weird, but that is how it was. However this year I visited the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and got a couple of awesome Oryx shots, still missing are silhouettes and on top of the dune shots. Fortunately a reason to visit the beautiful Kalahari and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park again…
