Architecture: Honorable Mention 2020 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The Kaleva Church in Tampere, Finland, was designed by Reima and Raili Pietilä and built between 1964-66 out of raw concrete using the continuous slip forming method. The church is considered to be among the key works of post-war Finnish modernism. The beautiful 41 stop organ was handcrafted in Kangasala Organ Factory, just 10 miles from the church itself.
I photographed this with a Rolleiflex camera, also built in the late 60’s, using Ilford HP5+ film that I pushed to 3200 ISO. This 3 stop push allowed me to emphasize the beautiful grainy surface of those massive concrete walls.
