Architecture: Honorable Mention 2020 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Last December, on an overcast day, I drove through rural Saline County, Nebraska, when I noticed a road sign pointing toward the village of Western. Curious, I drove down the gravel road and discovered a town frozen in time. With a population of only 233, abandoned buildings were scattered throughout the town limits. Perhaps none were more prominent than the old feed mill that stood at the edge of main drag, welcoming visitors. As the wind howled and darker clouds started to move in, I snapped a photo of the building that everyone that I spoke to agreed had been there as long as anyone could remember, standing as a testament to the importance of animal husbandry in the area.
