ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image has been mindfully produced for women and menopause awareness and is part of an ongoing project depicting the changes and observations of the Menopause through the collaboration of still life imagery, flowers and creative lighting. Society seemingly talks openly about 'The Change' however when it hit me, I was shocked that the sisterhood hadn't prepared me for the heavy weight of physical and psychological changes I confronted. Through kind photography, not gritty images, I want to offer awareness, grace and sometimes humour to those women suffering cognitive doubt and feelings of loss in such a way to refund understanding, togetherness, reflection and purpose.
'The Morning After The Night Before', deliberately uses empty Gin bottles and glassware to display wilting and ageing blooms relating to a gentle and joyous depiction of the aftermath of a party of women of a certain age where there is always one who wants to continue to shine and defy the inevitability of age whilst the wiser members of the bunch are prepared to skulk into the shadows. The sexual centres are vulnerable, dry and shrivelled and menopause is a time that exposes such a condition yet with acceptance and time are replaced by steadiness and hope and the power of beauty in age.
This image was taken during lockdown of Covid -19.
AUTHOR
I am a self taught, amateur photographer, living in London. I often delve into family and children photography but my passion is for Portraiture and Fine Art images. I love to emulate the depth of the creative lighting so masterfully presented by the Dutch golden age artists who invoked such emotive visions of life. My still life images hanker back to the days of dark and shadow using natural light to create atmosphere and depth. I want my images to conjure allegorical themes within our times – telling stories and feelings about today. I adore humour and beauty in my still life images and strive to bring back life to that which would ordinarily be overlooked.
