ENTRY DESCRIPTION
One of the famous beaches in East Sumba, Indonesia is Walakiri Beach. What attracted many professional photographers are this unique mangrove trees. Another uniqueness of Walakiri Beach is the beach sand that has a texture like powder or wet cement when the tide are low. Most beautifully about this beach is that it is East - West facing; hence, you can be here for sunset and next morning for the sunrise shoot.
During sunset, if the tide is high, you get calm water with awesome reflection. If the tide is lower, then the silhouette of mangrove trees that twist like dancers makes Walakiri beach sunset a unique phenomenon. During sunset, the combination of the color of the twilight sky and the silhouette of mangrove trees looks truly artistic and photogenic.
At certain period of the year, for example in Aug when we were there, milkyway shows up right after sunset.
This beach is just awesome for photographers. We were having so much fun. Once the sunset, we got ourselves ready for milkyway shots. Guess what, we were back in the morning for sunrise too.
Sumba Island, I shall be back!
AUTHOR
I considered myself an amateur photographer who delights in discoveries of the greatness and beauty of this world.
I was a military pilot for 25 years before joining the airlines since 2007. I love travelling; love nature especially beautiful landscapes. But it was not until 2015 that I became serious with photography. It all started when my wife showing me a beautiful sunbird's chick she took using her compact camera.
There was no turned back thereafter. We started with long tele-photo lenses for bird photography to landscape and most recently, exploring into the beauty of Black and White.
It is my hope that many people will get to see the beauty of this wonderful creation through my lenses.
