Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2020 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
When I started birding, before that I was into street photography and I never thought to get involved in this craft someday.
I remember very clearly on the first day how I encountered a bird. I saw a huge bird riverside, trying to catch a fish. I had no idea about its ID and other behavior. Still, I was very excited to click that bird and I started moving towards the bird with my camera. Within 3-4 steps, the bird noticed me and flew away.
I was totally surprised and shocked at the same time. I totally had no clue what exactly just happened to that bird and I had so many other questions in my mind.
After returning back home, I shared this experience with my senior Bird and Wildlife photographer friends.
I got all my answers from them i.e there's a proper way to APPROACH them and that's a vital point in this genre. After that experience, while approaching any bird, I have learned that there are many factors involved in itself like through our gesture, dress color, understanding the behavior of our subject, and many others.
Trust me till now while approaching birds, I have many experiences like crawled for a single bird for more than 30 mins at places like having Scorching Temperature, I have waited for any bird for many hours in the same position while pre-visualizing any frame or by knowing their behavior.
Once our bird gets comfortable with us they treat us as their own family and that's a win-win situation for us.
Above everything, I have learned a lot in my personal life as well from all these experiences of APPROACHING birds and every bird on this planet is special for me.
AUTHOR
Photography had always been a passion. I remember starting when I was 18 with a Nokia phone and used to capture whatever fascinated me. From the last nine years, I have been shooting almost every day to learn and grow in this field. Even in the availability of limited gears, I travel all around India for different projects. I love to capture frames that interest me, be it Wildlife, Birding, Street, Portraiture, Fine-art etc. My current self-project is Fine-Art Bird series. I believe your experiences teach you the best. Every day is a learning for me.
