Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2020 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Artist’s Statement
Once or twice a year I grab my camera gear, get in the car and head out through the American Southwest. The only plan I have is to cover one or more states with an eye to get to the "gray" roads....those roads less traveled.
The journey often brings me to a decision point…..left or right?
It really doesn’t matter because, with luck, it’ll bring me to a scene “From Another Time” that has a story to tell….and that, in turn, I’ll be able to re-tell through the images I capture.
“From Another Time” -- which are the black & white images you see on display here – represent my attempt to capture a sense of how the passage of time has left a place behind -- locked in the past…..with sometimes only the shadows remaining.
AUTHOR
Tim McEnerney
Following retirement from a career in advertising, which brought me from the coast of New England to the mountains of Snowmass Village12 years ago, I was fortunate in establishing a relationship the The Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
This has afforded me the opportunity to work closely with Andrea Wallace and Ben Timpson in the Photo/Digital Studio and given me exposure to serious critique, exposure to the work of very fine photographic artists and access to the Ranch’s excellent production facilities.
This has enabled me to transform my relationship with photograph from a hobby to a full time passion.
Black & White photography has always been my passion. Working within the bounds of the gray scale sets high standards for technical quality….but it’s a challenge that gives me great personal reward.
From many, many shots taken – each with promise at the time – an image will rise above the rest.
Something about the texture of the object, the lighting effect, the placement within the gray scale - even the detail and technical quality of the final print -- has made an image that truly pleases me.
