Do you see the Angel in the photo?
Angels are believed to be created from a luminous substance and are often described as a form of light. Many religions believe the Archangel Raphael is 'God's doctor' and brings the gift of healing. The world could use some healing during this Covid pandemic. Up until this year I had never publically displayed Angel. But perhaps now is the time.
Antelope Canyon is a beautiful, majestic sandstone slot canyon on Navajo Nation land near Page, Arizona. The Navajo people consider Antelope Canyon to be a very sacred site with deep religious significance. I recall it was a near-mystical experience.
In 2014 I visited Arizona and Antelope Canyon and took well over 1000 photos.
... it wasn't until years later, when I was scrolling through all these photos that something caught my eye ... and to my disbelief ... I saw an Angel ... in the beautiful light that shone through the canyon from above.
I should add that there is zero individual pixel manipulation (ie: local adjustments such as cloning, brushing, healing, dodging, burning) of the Angel photo. Just some minor global adjustments were made (ie: exposure, clarity, blacks/whites, contrast)
Angel was taken the same year and at the exact same location as Peter Lik's Phantom. This black & white photograph set the record for the most expensive photo ever sold: $6.5 million. Other than Phantom, Angel is the only other photo I have seen that truly depicts a 'spiritual' figure. My rough estimate is 10 million photographs have been taken from the same spot Peter and I took this photograph. Most just look like a beam of light ... albeit a very beautiful beam of light. :)
AUTHOR
I am a photographer who has resided in the Acton Boxboro (Massachusetts) area for nearly 25 years. My passion for photography was fueled as a college student in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Canada) , where I used my beloved Nikon FM and a darkroom to capture and share … a ‘spirited’ campus life. Since that time, I’ve fully embraced digital photography and imaging … the result of being immersed in the high technology industry and the start-up world for decades.
My artistic style is to use natural light as the foundation of a great photograph. I believe “light is Mother Nature’s paintbrush”. My photo expeditions often include rising at 3:30am to ensure I am in the right place as a new day awakens and unveils its glory.
I’ve traveled extensively worldwide in the pursuit of memorable photographs. I've been fortunate to photograph many of earth’s most beautiful destinations including the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Tuscany, Africa (the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro), Bangkok, Rome, Florence, the Acropolis, the Great Wall, the Taj Mahal, the Great Barrier Reef, the Canadian Rockies … and spectacular New England!
I am an avid golfer and have combined my love of golf and art by photographing numerous golf courses in New England, and world-renowned golf courses such as Augusta National (home of The Masters), Pinehurst, Mauna Kea (Hawaii) and Lahinch (Ireland).
