ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Wool - A sheep shepherd story
Living with the shepherds and following them throughout the whole transhumance session gave me the opportunity to fully immerge in their environment experiencing it first hand.
Sleeping, eating, showering as they do, facing their same challenges and helping them in their daily working activities, allowed me to capture an intimate overview of their lives. A portrait that goes far beyond the sheep, reaching the within of their personality, sculpturing their inner thoughts into a series of photographs.
In the photo, the two shepherd are resting, early in the morning, while waiting for big storm to end.
AUTHOR
Born in 1990 I have been jumping from place to place and from interest to interest. At the age of 14, I began to study science and technology in high school but I eventually ended up
graduating as a restaurant technician. My interests changed likewise, shifting from drawing to writing.
After a few experiences as chef at the age of 21 I have
attended lectures in psychology at the University of Padua. Thanks to the courses in Cultural and Visual Anthropology I slowly started developing an interest for visual art, mainly oil painting and PixelArt applied to videogames. Was already 2016 and photography did not cross my mind yet.
Only in late 2017, while managing Amazon Stores as a freelance job I approached photography (for products and advertising) as a way to improve conversion and online sales.
The turning point came after I worked a couple of years as a commercial photographer between Italy and Canada. Due to a series of coincidences I stumbled upon the chance to join two sheep shepherd for a few days, living as they do and taking some shots of their daily activities.
Few days suddenly turned into few months, I found out the
importance of photography not only as a medium to document experiences and tell stories, but also as a compass for
exploration, a tool that by holding within a strong
‘communication power’ must be used to tell the untold and bring closer the farthest.
