Its name, "Virago," was chosen because of the word's duplicate meaning. While the word, based in Latin, originally described a heroic and strong woman, it's been twisted by time to describe overbearing and domineering women. This shoot, as well as my work as a photographer, seeks to empower women as well as humans that feel oppressed by the status quo. Photography has the unique ability to showcase the beauty and power that we don't always see in ourselves, and I hope that this photo does just that.
