ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Once a common sight roaming across East, Central and Southern Africa, there are now fewer than 30 African elephants with tusks long enough to reach the ground. Known as ‘big tuskers’, these giants inevitably attract the unwanted attention of ivory poachers.
In my image "The One of The Few" I want to portray Tolstoy-one of the Big Tuskers living in Amboseli NP in Kenya. Unfortunately, the most famous big tusker Tim has died this year at the age of 50. The few of the remaining include Craig and Tolstoy that I was fortunate to photograph with the help of my dear friends in Amboseli park. The rangers of a Big Life Foundation do an incredible job protecting these amazing, and now days, rear elephants.
In my photograph I want the viewer to appreciate the magnificence, power and yes, the rear beauty of this elephant, and hopefully raise the awareness to protect the remaining super Giants for us and our children.
