ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I have been very impressed and influenced with the works of international wildlife photographer Tom Way. I love the minimalist approach of his monochrome photographs which create powerful and evocative wildlife imagery through the importance of light, character and simplicity.
This shot was taken in the Madekwe Game Reserve in South Africa.
The objective was to focus directly on the female giraffe's head. The aim was simplicity with no background interference or distraction. I wanted the emphasis to be on the her - the light in her eyes; the fine eyelashes; the delicate hair in the ears and the general detail and textures in the facial hair. I think she would be very attractive to a male giraffe! She is the essence of the photograph.
AUTHOR
A memory of past events, experiences and emotions through my eyes.
I have always loved photography. What I really enjoy is taking images that first and foremost appeal to me. They must always evoke a memory of a past event or an experience - the coldness of the snow, the taste of coffee, the smell of a perfume, the music which was playing at the time and most importantly, family and friends. To me, photography is a true art form which must have an emotional connection.
I have a fairly eclectic style. Basically, if I like it, I'll shoot it.
Photography for me is a journey of continual innovation and improvement - always striving to be better and trying to look at things in a different way - the inspiring moment, a dash of the unexpected and a hint of the unknown.
