Nude: Honorable Mention 2020 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
A simple, unclothed body, which causes discomfort because it lacks any sense of shame, is different from the representation of an idealized male body shown by the artist. By the Renaissance at the latest, the male nude had assumed a predominant position: Man as a universal being merged with the image of man and his body was elevated to the norm of the human race, which was already the case in Greco-Roman art. The majority of artists see the male nude as an "ideal image", a glorifying, narcissistic mirror of themselves. Until the middle of the 20th century, however, the sexual organ shamefully recedes into the background or is veiled under cleverly placed draperies, a strap or a sword scabbard. In modern times, on the other hand, the showing of genitals, even if they only make up a small part of the picture, is scandalized by small noisy groups in the social media for very different reasons. As an artist, however, I see myself obliged to a complete representation and authenticity in the nude.
