Street: Honorable Mention 2020 (professional)
Bird feeding in Dam Square, Amsterdam, NL, 2017 by David Goh (Singapore)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Bird feeding is a common activity and sight in the main square of Amsterdam – but for a little girl to be smiling while swarmed with flock of pigeons, that's rare! This was photographed back in 2017 while exploring the streets of Amsterdam trying to find a photo-worthy scene.
I stumbled upon the square and spotted this little girl just starting to throw seeds out to the birds. Within a minute, a flock of pigeons started gathering around her and soon she was the centre of attention on the busy city square. I started shooting from several meters away, but eventually decided to get closer to the action.
Magically, people walked out of the frame in the background behind her, and I managed to get a clean and heart-warming shot of her in a wonderful moment!
AUTHOR
David Goh is a 27 year old artist and photographer from Singapore.
Following an early interest in the medium, he completed his formal studies in Fine Art Photography at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore before moving on to expand his portfolio in New York, Sydney and across Europe.
A firm believer in natural light, David’s work covers the genres of fashion, portraiture and landscape. His images – characterised by the unmistakable black and white and emotive style, apply the principles of pure photography; using simply light and shade. His minimalist aesthetic and sensitivity to light help bring into sharp relief the beauty of his subjects, giving rise to imagery that celebrates both the environment and his subjects in their most natural state.
