ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The Zeeland Bridge or as it is called in Dutch "de Zeelandbrug" is the longest bridge in the Netherlands and spans the Oosterschelde estuary, connecting the islands of Noord-Beveland and Schouwen-Duiveland in the Dutch province of Zeeland.
Construction started in 1963 and it was completed in 1965, at that time it was the longest bridge in Europe. The bridge's total length is 5,022 metres, and is built up out of 48 spans of 95 metres each. Two spans are a little over 72 metres. Additionally there is a movable bridge with a width of 40 meters.
For the construction of the Zeeland Bridge the province of Zeeland had to borrow and the loan was repaid in the first 24 years by levying tolls.
