Charles Bridge in an autumn foggy morning, Prague, Czech Republic
AUTHOR
Petr Vapenik is a self-taught amateur photographer, originally from the Pilsen region (West of Czech Republic), now living in Dobrichovice near Prague. For him, photography is primarily about enjoying the world around him. He has worked successively as a scientist in the field of natural sciences, a teacher of chemistry, a marketing specialist and an IT architect. He has been taking photographs since childhood, first only black and white and home-made photos, later also colour and infrared ones. He has been exhibiting publicly since 2013 and has had 9 solo exhibitions in the Czech Republic. Since 2020 he has been participating in selected international photography contests, in which he has won a lot of awards.
Above all, he tries to make visible what is often not seen at first glance, so called “pictures from behind-the-light”. He often uses photo filters and very long exposures in different areas of the spectrum. In specific projects he also uses ICM techniques. He looks for unconventional images in shots of flowing water, often in the infrared region of the spectrum. His desire is to make "beautiful images that don't lie".
