Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2021 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This was a photo taken of a hiker on top of Mount Errigal in the North West Of Ireland (the highest mountain in this region). This lady stood there for quite some time gazing out across the stunning views as the sun slowly dipped below the Atlantic Ocean in the far off distance.
AUTHOR
Photography for me began with shooting the world up close in the form of potpourri jars, kit lat wrappers, bin stains and whatnot. I was producing these abstract visuals for ambient soundscapes which i was creating, and here I found massive passion in finding all these wee magic alien like microcosms all around me.
When I progressed to a Pentax KX and tried out old manual lenses in manual mode, as opposed to kit lenses in auto, I got my head into understanding photography properly. At this point I started exploring landscape photography and fell in love with it. I soon found myself becoming more experimental with landscape work by using ‘in camera multiple exposures’ combined with ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) having been inspired by the British photographer ‘Chris Friel’.
I could say that using the above mentioned techniques aid in my ability to better capture the magickal atmosphere of the Irish landscape. In truth however, this would really be grasping at words as I dont create work with any preconceived concepts or fixed intellectual ideas.
I believe there is no single one true meaning to any works of art, and that artists themselves don't own the interpretation rights to their work. Personally I'm more interested in hearing other peoples description of my work as opposed to blethering on about my own ideas.
